Today was Sierra's 5th birthday and it was all about Barbie! She told me she wanted a Barbie Mariposa party and after looking everywhere for weeks, I finally found some things on ebay. I decided to attempt a Barbie cake for her and make sure you all remind me not to make cakes for my kids' birthdays next year. I stress out about them way too much, but I was pleased with the final turn out.
This was the first time we've had a birthday party for Sierra. She invited all her friends from preschool and all but one were able to come. I found miniature Barbie Mariposa dolls, so I decided that they could make and decorate their own little Barbie cakes and then take them home as their prize. They did really well and they turned out pretty cute. Afterwards, we opened presents and she got about 12 Barbie and fairy dolls! I hope she decides she likes to play with dolls. The girls then played for awhile and watched Mariposa until their moms came to pick them up.
Jay's parents came over shortly after, and we opened the family presents. She got the Enchanted DVD, some books, a camera, and a big girl bike! She was soon outfitted in her helmet and elbow pads and headed outside for her first bike ride. It took her a minute to catch on, but she started doing quite well by the time we went back inside. She was so funny to watch. She was so busy watching her feet and the pedals that she forgot to watch where she was going. She crashed about four times, but nothing serious yet.
Unfortunately, Jay had school tonight, so he left about 5. My parents came over later that evening and brought Sierra some new pajamas and cooking sets for her kitchen. Of course, she loved them. It was a very busy day, but Sierra said she had fun and enjoyed playing with all her new toys. Generally our tradition is to go to Hogle Zoo for Sierra's birthday, so we'll have to make that up pretty quick.
