A Midsummer Night's Dream

Last weekend, Jay surprised me and took me to the Outdoor Theatre at Sundance to see a play. It was their last performance of the season and it was great. We went to dinner at Outback, mmmmm, and stuffed ourselves with cheese fries, ribs, shrimp, steak, and chicken. We didn't realize all the hiking we'd have to do when we got up there.

You park in a parking lot clear up the mountain, then they bus you back down to the bottom. You hike a little ways to another spot where you can get a tractor ride to take you up to where the theatre is, but we just hiked up there. It is all open seating, but we chose to just spread out a blanket and sit on the grass, rather than sitting on the benches in front of the stage.

It was so gorgeous up there and we had a great time, even though it got pretty chilly. They started out with an act called the Thrillionaires. They were an improv comedy group and were actually pretty funny. Jay missed most of it since he was down getting me some popcorn, but I would recommend going to see them if you get a chance. I know they perform somewhere in Provo.

Sundance is affiliated with UVU, so most of the actors in the play were from the school. They did a great job, and I really enjoyed it. I think Shakespeare is totally meant to be seen, not just read. It makes a lot more sense when you see it performed, rather than reading all those funny words. I've always liked this play, but my favorite comedy is Twelfth Night. We'll have to go see that one some time. It was so fun, and maybe next year we'll take the kids!
